Geelong team claims shield

November 16, 2015

Geelong Past Players entered two teams in the Combined Past Players Annual Bowls Day held at Altona Bowls Club and enjoyed shield success.

Although not winning first place (that went to a combined Footscray Football Club and Altona Bowls Club team which was not eligible to win the Ken McKaig Shield), Geelong represented by Russell Middlemiss, lead, Ray Bennett second, Brian Lever Third and skippered by Frank Pomeroy did finish second, winning all four games and  beating all football clubs to claim the shield, which now hangs proudly in our rooms.

A second side with Brian Chirgwin, lead, Peter Menzies, second, Scott Hovey, third, and Wayne Hovey, skipper, was not as successful, winning only one game.

Geelong will defend the trophy on Sunday, March 20, at the Altona Bowls Club.
